CNC machining services

Radian CNC machining services are located in Santa Clara, California, USA in a newly renovated 35,000 square foot facility. We partner with your mechanical and design engineers to create custom precision machined parts for aerospace & defense, automotive startups, consumer electronics, and medical device customers.

Typical materials used for CNC machining services

  • Aluminum 6061 is the most common machined metal as it is lightweight and easy to machine making it perfect for perfect for prototypes. CNC machined Al 6061 has a high strength-to-weight ratio and is corrosion resistant.
  • Aluminum 6063 is more expensive than CNC machined 6061 and has a slightly higher heat transfer. Al 6063 has good mechanical properties and can be heat treated. It is also used for extrusions.
  • Stainless steel alloys have high strength, ductility, wear and are corrosion resistance. They can be easily welded, machined and polished.
  • Brass has excellent electrical conductivity and has low friction.
  • Copper is used for electrical applications or where high thermal conductivity is required and is corrosion resistant, although tarnishes without a protective coating.
  • Polyoxymethylene (POM) is a thermoplastic used for high stiffness, low friction, and stability.
  • Nylon has excellent mechanical, chemical and abrasion properties.
  • Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is has good mechanical properties, impact strength, and heat resistance.
  • Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is a thermoplastic that has excellent mechanical and chemical resistance properties that are retained to high temperatures
  • Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer with excellent chemical, thermal resistance and the low coefficient of friction.
  • Polycarbonate is easily precision CNC machined, and is used in car lights, windows, lenses, or electrical applications.

Radian has a team of mechanical engineers based in Santa Clara that can advise on “Design for Manufacture” (DFM) or even take your ideas and create a SolidWorks CAD drawing. In addition, where required we can conduct computational modelling to advise on both mechanical stress.

Where heat may be an issue, thermal analysis and validation services using powerful Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and proprietary simulation packages are also available where we can can modify your design to allow heat dissipation.
